Feria for the Tuesday 1 July 2014

Dear Fathers, Friends in Christ,

Amos 3:1-8; 4:11-12
 Psalm 5:4b-6a, 6b-7, 8
 Matthew 8:23-27

"Lord, save us, we are perishing."

We naturally turn to Jesus at the times when we are most stressed, when everything seems to be going wrong, when the whole world has been turned upside down. However, the time to turn to Jesus is every moment of our lives. Every moment, even those that seem to go well for us, we can pray, "Lord, save us, we are perishing." Because we realize in the prayer that when His name is not on our lips, in our hearts, on our minds, it is like wandering through a vast, waterless, featureless landscape. Nothing has any savor, nothing has any worth, everything serves only to oppress. But when we proclaim loudly and in a heartfelt way the name of Jesus, even water tastes delicious, bread becomes manna, and what was hellish heat becomes life-giving warmth and welcome. We perish every moment without Him, so turn to Him and choose life!
