Feria for the Thursday

Dear Fathers, Friends in Christ,

Ecclesiastes 1:2-11
 Psalm 90:3-4, 5-6, 12-13, 14 and 17bc
 Luke 9:7-9

Today's First Reading from Ecclesiastes says,

Vanity of vanities, says Qoheleth,
 Vanity of vanities! All things are vanity!
(Chapter 1, verse 2)

 Certainly, when compared to God, all things are worthless and as nothing.

 Yet, we live in a world of things, and ideas that have come into being, either because God has permitted them or because He has simply created them.

 It is therefore our duty, and ultimately our salvation, to recognize God's hand at work and to use everything for His glory and the salvation of our souls.

 Don't become jaded, so to speak, by all that seems wrong, but seek the good, what is right and what is beautiful.

Thou, Lord, didst make all for Thy pleasure,
 Didst give man food for all his days,
 Giving in Christ the Bread Eternal;
 Thine is the power, be Thine the praise.
