Three little Magi

Dear Fathers, Friends in Christ,

Hebrews 8:6-13

 Psalm 85:8 and 10, 11-12, 13-14
 Mark 3:13-19

A Church newspaper this week reviewed some of the various parish activities during the Christmas season. There was a picture of three little boys dressed as the Three Magi. They were so cute that it made me laugh out loud. They didn't know how "wise" they really are. What wonderful seeds God has planted in them to continue His mission!

Similarly, we see in today's gospel Christ's decision on the twelve apostles. "He summoned those whom He wanted and they came to Him." (Mark 3:13) Christ saw something in each of these men that led Him to entrust them with carrying out His mission and building His Church. Each person had their unique role to play in that process, just as each of us have a unique role today. One person doesn't do it all, but the part that we play is important. No one else can do what we do.

What does Christ see in each of us, and what role do we have in carrying out His mission?
