Holy Saturday

Dear Fathers, Friends in Christ,

Gospel Mark 16:1-7

Holy Saturday's Easter Vigil liturgy is not only the high point of the Church year, it is also a feast for the senses!

We see the solitary glow of the Easter Candle amidst the darkness. We hear the Alleluias finally break forth! We smell the spicy incense and the sharp, sweet scent of lilies. We touch the waxy candles in our hands. And, finally, we taste Christ in the Host, the Bread of Life, the risen Lord Himself!

The Church pulls out all the stops for the Easter Vigil, and the kernel of the message is contained in tonight's gospel, where the angel tells the astonished women at the tomb:

"You seek Jesus of Nazareth, the crucified.
He has been raised; He is not here!"

Let us all rejoice together this Easter!
 And together, let us proclaim:

Christ is risen! Truly He is risen!
Glory to Your holy resurrection, O Christ our God!
 Alleluia! Alleluia! Alleluia!
