Thursday in the octave of the Ascension

Dear Fathers, Friends in Christ,

"I pray that the world may believe that You sent me."
(John 17:20-21)

The 17th chapter of the Gospel of John comprises what is commonly known as the priestly prayer of our Lord at the Last Supper. In this prayer, Jesus describes His mission on earth as one of being sent by the Father to make Him known. In turn, the disciples of Christ are also being sent. "As You have sent me into the world, so I have sent them into the world."
(John 17:18)

At the conclusion of each Mass, having been strengthened by the Holy Eucharist, we are called to glorify God by our lives. We are to go out into the world, continuing to carry out our mission in Christ.

As disciples of Christ, may we treasure this call from our Saviour, by whom we have been chosen and sent into the world to make the Father known.
