Saturday after Trinity Sunday

 

 

 

Dear Fathers, Friends in Christ,

 

By what authority?

 

 The Elders asked Jesus,
 "By what authority do you teach and do these things?"
(Mark 11:28)

 

 These were smart men, but not wise. They knew clearly the ways of the world and of power. And perhaps it was this knowledge that blinded them to the source of the authority that empowered Jesus, and empowers us even today.

 

 That authority is Love itself; because Love is the name and the being of the Father who cares for us. It is Love that keeps us alive and Love that is the sole authority.

 For God is at the heart of Love, and Love itself is the seal of God upon us! Smart men will question it, seeking to spring the trap. But wise men and women accept it and build their lives on this perfect authority.
