Feria on the Wednesday

Dear Fathers, Friends in Christ,

Please Lord, even the dogs eat the scraps
that fall from the table of their masters. (Matthew 15:27)

Jesus mysteriously scoffs at a pagan woman who desperately seeks His healing for her daughter.  In reality, our Lord draws the woman ever closer to His heart through seeming acts of dismissal and rebuff.

Ultimately, He exalts her (the simple phrase “O Woman” in verse 28 is rich with meaning).  This persevering, humble and deeply faithful Canaanite woman represents all broken souls in search of mercy, healing and salvation for themselves and their loved ones

Do not give Him a moment’s rest…
Make importunity your watchword,
let persistence be a miracle in you.
Compel God to throw off the mask
and say to you with admiration:
Great is your faith, be it done as you wish.
