Advents feria for the Monday

Dear Fathers, Brothers, Sisters in Christ,

Isaiah 4:2-6
 Psalm 122:1-2, 3-4b, 4cd-5, 6-7, 8-9
 Matthew 8:5-11

Here we are, at the beginning of Advent. The Lord has given us this season of grace as a time of opportunity. It is a time for us to increase our faith in Him. As an example of faith, let's look at
the centurion in today's gospel.

This Roman soldier understood authority, having men under his command. He recognized that Jesus too had authority and power, although of a different kind. So he put his faith in Jesus to heal his servant. That kind of faith impressed Jesus, who pointed out that "in no one in Israel have I found such faith." Jesus healed the servant. He will heal us too, when we put our faith in Him.

Let us make the centurion's plea our own today, and pray:

O Lord, I am not worthy to have you enter under my roof; only say the word and my soul will be healed.
