Feria for the thursday after the 3rd Sunday in Lent

Dear Fathers, Friends in Christ,

Jeremiah 7:23-28
 Psalm 95:1-2, 6-7, 8-9
 Luke 11:14-23

In today's First Reading from Jeremiah, God recounts the extent of the unfaithfulness of His chosen ones. It is a sad litany that continues in our own time and often in our own hearts.

When we fail to properly engage in the season of Lent and let its grace transform us, we tune out the Lord's voice, refuse to walk in His way and turn our backs on the goodness He prepares for us, preferring instead to do our "own thing."

In doing so we become even worse than those before us: a "nation that does not listen to the voice of the Lord, its God, or take correction." (Jeremiah: 7:28)

These are dire words, as is the warning that follows in the Gospel which says, "Every kingdom divided against itself will be laid waste." (Luke 11:17)

What or who dwells in the Kingdom of your heart, your family, your nation? What or who sits in the throne room? What or who is its greatest treasure?

Let the grace of Lent reveal it!
