Dear Fathers, Friends in Christ,
Acts 15:7-21
Psalm 196:1-2a, 2b-3, 10
John 15:9-11
In today's First Reading from the Acts of the Apostles, we joyfully witness how our newly formed Church dealt with an issue that could have been a serious impediment for evangelization of the Gentiles -- the issue of circumcision!
Of great importance are the dialogue and care that were taken to consider what was truly relevant. True relevance is not of man’s design, but resides in the Heart of the Almighty and is discerned by man only in the Light of God’s grace.
Pray then, that we might be obedient to the loving designs of God, who made His Church -- One, Holy, Catholic and Apostolic.
Say among the nations: The LORD is king.
He has made the world firm, not to be moved;
He governs the peoples with equity.
(From today's Responsorial Psalm 96:10)
