Tuesday in the Octave of Pentecost

Dear Fathers, Friends in Christ,

1 Kings 17:7-16
 Psalm 4:2-3, 4-5, 7b-8
 Matthew 5:13-16

Just so, your light must shine before others,
that they may see your good deeds
and glorify your heavenly Father. (Matthew 5:16)

We are the light of Christ. Through our actions and our words, we allow Jesus to be present to those around us. Jesus depends on us to be an example to others, to make Him known to others, to share the many gifts that we have been given, and to proclaim the truth of our faith. As Christians, we must play an active role in spreading the "Good News" of the Gospel.

Jesus is always near us, but it is our humanity and our pride which prevent us from experiencing His love and peace in our lives. We must fight against evil every day. We must resist the tide and pull of the world, and strive for the virtue in life. Through prayer, we obtain balance, grace, and spiritual strength, so that our lives may be a bright light, which shines before men.
