Dear Fathers, Friends in Christ,
2 Corinthians 12:1-10
Psalm 34:8-9, 10-11, 12-13
Matthew 6:24-34
What we worry about is often not what is most important.
We may worry about food and clothing, for instance. In today's gospel, Jesus brings up these concerns, to show us that we cannot serve two masters. If we're busy worrying about what we are to eat and to drink and to wear, we won't have time to truly serve God and His kingdom.
But when we put God and His kingdom first, "all these things will be given you besides," Jesus says. "Your heavenly Father knows that you need them all."
Today, let's bring our temporal concerns to our Father, and leave them there. That will give us the time to tend to heavenly concerns.
Father, I've been worrying about _____________.
You know what is truly needed, and so I leave this worry with You.
Let me be free to serve You first today, for You and Your Kingdom are what is most important.
Amen.
