Feria on the Friday - the mystery of the universe

Dear Fathers, My friends in Christ,

'One With All Things'

He is before all things, and in him all things hold together.
Colossians 1:17

The mystery of the universe has been explored, examined and explained by curious people long before Jesus was born. St. Paul tells us that Jesus Christ predates the universe, which mystifies our human minds. Who can see, much less explore, what existed before creation? The image of our invisible Creator God was made visible through the Word of God, born in human form. How humbling to think that we, too, have been created in the image of God, who holds all things together.

Human minds have the ability to look within, to examine our hearts and our own consciousness. We do this when we pray. As the image of God, then, when we turn to look within ourselves, we find the heart of God. Or we can turn away, separating ourselves from union with God and each other by giving in to temptation through sin. Prayer returns our inward focus to the heart of God, where he waits for us, forgives us and brings us back into being one with all things.
