Dear Fathers, Friends in Christ,
Luke 16:9-15
Before daylight breaks upon the earth,
the good Christian rises to begin his day in prayer.
Lighting a simple candle for light to read,
he sits and becomes recollected.
he sits and becomes recollected.
The candle itself reveals much in its simple form of wax and cloth wick,
Yet,
it fulfills its own task only to help and aid others.
it fulfills its own task only to help and aid others.
The light of the candle flickers with a sense of gentleness,
Yet,
it dispels the darkness to bring light.
it dispels the darkness to bring light.
Warmth from the candle seems to be felt from the flame
and its aroma pleases the sense of smell.
and its aroma pleases the sense of smell.
It does all of this, by giving of itself, slowly decreasing
for the well-being of others.
for the well-being of others.
In today's scripture,
Jesus teaches us that we must develop in holiness,
to do the small things in life
before we can tackle larger tasks.
There are times that we may drift away from even the simplest of tasks that God presents us.
Before we can become a reflection,
a light of the Lord for those in darkness,
or a comfort to those who are cold and lonely,
we must first be spiritually grounded in our faith and in the love of the Lord.
a light of the Lord for those in darkness,
or a comfort to those who are cold and lonely,
we must first be spiritually grounded in our faith and in the love of the Lord.
O Jesus, renew my heart,
so that I might simply do
what You have called me to do.
Amen.
