Advents Feria for the Thursday

Dear Fathers, Friends in Christ,

Psalm  118:1 and 8-9, 19-21, 25-27a

Today's Responsorial Psalm tells us something we might tend to forget:

It is better to take refuge in the LORD
 than to trust in man.

It is better to take refuge in the LORD
 than to trust in princes.

Holy Scripture teaches us, that God is Creator, His Son is
Redeemer and the Holy Spirit is the Breath that enlivens every thing that is good.

Peace, security, happiness -- whatever noble words you might choose are not man-made, but possible and enduring only when God's gifts to us are put into action according to His will.

Only to the extent that God's sovereigntry forms the basis of our collective action and behavior, will lasting goodness be achieved, and any that is currently enjoyed will remain.

Let us then pray for ourselves and for our world that we'll get things straight -- first things first -- second things second!

The LORD is God,
 We are His people
 The flock He Shepherds.
