Feria for the Tuesday

Dear Fathers, Friends in Christ,

Thessalonians 2:1-3A, 14-17
 Psalm 96:10, 11-12, 13
 Matthew 23:23-26

"The weightier things of the law . . . ."

There are those who are burdened by the terrible weight of scrupulosity. They try to follow every little rule, every little law. They count up all their daily sins and despair of finding a way to heaven. They tithe their tithes of mint and cumin, but they miss the message: kindness, compassion, mercy, generosity, love. These prompt the law. These make the law a message of love from God.

Let us follow the law in its spirit of mercy, kindness, and love. Let us be generous first to ourselves, brushing ourselves off after we have fallen and looking cheerfully to God, thanking Him for all He has given us, the fulfillment of the Law who is Jesus Christ.
