Rather, blessed are those who hear the word of God
and observe it." (Luke 11:28)
Jesus's words here are remarkable, since they are in the context of someone in the crowd calling out that His mother is blessed.
It's true that to be the mother of Jesus is an exceptional blessing - and we refer to her as "blessed."
Yet, Jesus responds, "Rather, blessed are those who hear the word of God and observe it." Thus, He turns the attention of the crowd away from His mother and back to themselves.
They - and we too - can be blessed simply by hearing the word of God and putting it into practice.
help me to hear Your word and observe it!
Help me to treasure Your word in my heart,
and then to put it into practice today.
