Saint Andrew, Apostle - 30 November 2015

Dear Fathers, Friends in Christ,

Romans 10:9-18
 Psalm 19:8, 9, 10, 11
 Matthew 4:18-22

Do you know when you received your faith?
When did you know that Jesus Christ is Lord?

Our first teachers in most cases were our parents who wanted us to have the faith of their fathers. This was our calling! Typically they taught us to bless ourselves, calling on God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit. They taught us to pray, to worship and to praise God. Our faith comes from what is heard, and what is heard comes from the preaching of Christ in the scriptures which we read every day.

Sometimes we take our faith for granted; we might lose sight of the Lord and all His goodness. This happens to us whenever we forget the message of redemption. We have the awesome responsibility, as members of the body of Christ, to teach others about Jesus, just as the two brothers were invited to become fishers of men. Take every opportunity to witness for Christ, cast aside any fears, be bold and you will be a modern-day apostle walking in the footsteps of St. Peter and St. Andrew..

What is our mission as this year of our Lord 2015 approaches its closure?

It is to reveal the glory of Christ by visiting and comforting the sick, the aged, and the needy; to forgive our enemies; and to love everyone with the love of Christ. We can start by asking God to allow His Holy Spirit to fall afresh on us, to answer the call as Saint Andrew did and bring the word of God to everyone we know.

Empower me, O Lord! Give me the strength to be Your messenger!
Refresh me to answer Your call, Amen!
