Wednesday in Holy Week - Judas betrays Christ

Dear Fathers, Friends in Christ,

Isaiah 50:4-9a
 Psalm 69:8-10, 21-22, 31 and 33-34
 Matthew 26:14-25

They paid him thirty pieces of silver. (Matthew 26:15)

Our Lord, Jesus, must have observed Judas' gradual decline from his original delight at being chosen one of the Twelve, to his disillusionment that the Master was not to be a powerful earthly king, to a final state of such moral depravity that his heart had become a breeding ground for Satanic plots.

Yet, Jesus loved him to the end.

Let us pray that we never fall into despair in response to life's disappointments. Let us embrace each cross as a priceless gift that contains within itself a seed of love so great that the gates of Hell crumble in its wake.
