The Exaltation of the Holy Cross

Dear Fathers and Friends in Christ

The Exhaltation of the Holy Cross

"For God so loved the world that He gave His only Son."
(John 3:16)

Perhaps one of the greatest sufferings is to helplessly witness the profound suffering of a loved one, especially an innocent child.

Such witnessing was borne by the Mother of God, the mother of Holy Innocence itself. She can be a wonderful source of consolation, as she brings to her Son both the pains and anxieties of the afflicted as well as those of the afflicted's loved ones.

Keeping in mind that God our Father created His human children in His image and likeness, the Church assures us that His love for them mirrors the love He has for His only begotten Son. It is an infinite love beyond limit.

Such a father would go to any extreme, to help a desperately endangered son or daughter. Through the gift of Jesus and the incomprehensible sacrifice of the cross, our Father in heaven did in fact enter the realm of the extreme to save His beloved children from eternal death.

May we come to love the cross, our hope and our salvation.
