'Held in Love' - Trinity 21

Dear Fathers, Friends in Christ,

'Held in Love'
Aaron and Hur supported his hands, one on one side and one on the other, so that his hands remained steady till sunset.
Exodus 17:12

Perhaps we can remember times when we've been in a Moses state of mind and body: bone tired, aching, brokenhearted, tasting despair, bereft of energy. Hopefully we can also recall moments when, though we could no longer lift ourselves up, a parent, friend or mentor shared their strength with us.

Today is a call to give thanks for the presence of our faithful God who never fails to gather us in the arms of love and mercy and hold us there. It's also a day to celebrate those who imitate the divine through gentle encouragement, those who steady anxious nerves, strengthen buckling knees, salve wounded hearts, breathe calm into harried souls and tell us we're beautiful or smart or capable or forgiven when we're unable to imagine that any of those words could apply to us.
