Saint Luke the Evangelist

Dear Fathers, Friends in Christ,

Saint Luke, the Evangelist
Luke 10:1-9

Today, we celebrate the feast of St. Luke, writer of the third Gospel and the Acts of the Apostles. In today's Gospel from St. Luke, we learn from Jesus that the opportunity to harvest souls is abundant, that many souls are thirsting and waiting to receive the grace of salvation.

In today's world, we have two large missionary fields: Evangelization where Christ is not yet known, and Re-evangelization of Christians who have grown cold and indifferent to the love of God.

We who have gratefully received the fire of the Holy Spirit, are called to share and to make known the sacred truths, the light of Christ! We are called daily, to re-ignite that fire enkindled within by the Holy Spirit, as we interact with one another with holy love in all matters.

If we have fostered God's love within our own hearts, then we must be bursting with desire to share the knowledge of God's grace with our brothers and sisters. For God, in His love and compassion, wishes that they too might receive that same joyful grace of salvation. May God's love come upon many souls in the vineyard this very day!

Come Holy Spirit,
fill the hearts of Thy faithful
enkindle in them the Fire of Thy Love!
 Amen
