Dear Fathers, Brothers, Sisters in Christ,
How is your Lenten journey going ?
Deuteronomy 30:15-20
Psalm 1:1-2, 3, 4 and 6
Luke 9:22-25
Blessed are they who hope in the Lord.
(see Psalm 40:5a)
What does it mean to hope in the Lord? It seems to be more
than just having faith. Otherwise, why would Hope be included
as one of the three theological virtues--Faith and Love being the
others?
A Bible scholar or a learned student of theology would surely be
able to give you an erudite answer. As for me, all I know is that
without hope I would be lost; I would tend to be more gloomy
and more easily given to despair.
Perhaps that's why Hope is represented by the symbol of an
anchor--something that prevents us from drifting out of the safe
harbor that the Love of God provides.
Use Hope, then, to steady your little boat, so that the winds of
change won't set you adrift, away from your true homeland, the
Kingdom of God.
