Tuesday after the Second Sunday after Easter

Dear Fathers, Friends in Christ,

Acts 7:51-8:1a
 Psalm 31:3cd-4, 6 and 7b and 8a, 17 and 21ab
 John 6:30-35

I am the bread of life. . . .

As God gave manna to the Israelites wandering in the desert, He gives us manna today. This bread is real food. It grants grace; it strengthens us for the daily battle.

When Jesus taught us to pray in the Our Father, He said, "Give us this day our daily bread." He was reminding the people of the time of that manna, which remained good only for a single day. But he was also telling them of the time that would come in which He would be our daily bread, feeding us with Himself.

This gift of self, renewed every day, is one of the surest signs of God's deep and abiding care for each of us. Let us be truly thankful for our daily bread and take every opportunity to partake of it worthily.
